Iran exported 83% more semi-finished and finished steel over the last ten months than the corresponding period last year, according to government mines and mining organisation Imidro.

The Middle Eastern country exported 907,000 tonnes of semi-finished and finished steel products in the last ten months.

Iran’s exports have progressively fallen since 2007 as domestic demand grew and took up a greater share of material produced.

Since 2008, the volume of exports has been capped by the effects of the global economic crisis.

State-owned steel plants produced 8.8 million tonnes of crude steel in the last ten months, 3% more than the corresponding period last year, Imidro said.
